This video is a fascinating summary on how mimicking nature’s design (biomimicry) can help solve problems. There’s 3 main ways to mimic: form (shape), process (communication, organization, efficiency) and at a more macro level, ecosystem (circular economies, system).
Process biomimicry has been incorporated into software already – the example given in the video above talks about autonomous automobile communication in a city that mimics how ants naturally communicate.
But I wonder as the web gets closer to our physical world with AR and VR technologies getting so much better (see The Verge’s piece on “How Everybody Wants A Hologram of their Kids” ) how we will start to see more form biomimicry in our web and interactive design.
